Leah Tamara Hussey is an active counselling psychologist. Like any caring psychologist, she passionately aims at offering an open, safe, and optimistic space for people to come and talk openly. She believes in openly warm, non-judgmental, collaborative, and an evidence-based ethical commitment to her therapies. Leah has shown her commitment to implementing changes in her clients’ lives by keeping herself updated with the latest practices and trends in psychology. Her belief in therapy is that she aims to create a space for people to understand that it’s a strength to take up therapy and stands by it being accessible to all.
Leah's strong educational training with a master's degree in counselling psychology at Kristu Jayanti (deemed to be university), Bangalore, has helped her build a strong foundation in dealing with her therapies in both practical and theoretical foundations. Her experiences in various internships, fieldwork, and workshops have exposed her to multiple populations from children to adults in both counselling setups and clinical setups. She is trained and exposed to various therapeutic modalities and techniques like cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, psychodynamic therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, reminiscence therapy, solution-focused therapy, person-centred therapy, systematic desensitization, behavioral therapies, assertive training, self-instructional training, and grounding techniques & alternative techniques. Her skills in active listening, observation, questioning, reflection, focusing and confrontation, influencing and positive assertiveness, skill integration, adaptability, teamwork in multidisciplinary settings, and effective communication.
Leah specializes in individual and group counselling, as well as family and couple counselling. Her areas of expertise include working with childhood traumas, supporting emotional regulation, and helping clients build self-esteem. She also provides guidance for managing stress and anxiety, navigating depression, and addressing substance-related struggles. In addition to traditional therapeutic methods, Leah incorporates alternative approaches such as art and drama therapy into her practice.
Alongside her great passion in psychology, Leah has other passions and interests in other areas like culinary art, sport and fitness, art in all forms like fine arts, drama, dance and music, and she loves reading or watching documentaries and things that are based on true events.
